Obituary

Annie Laura Johnson Sheffield, affectionately known to some as "Ms. Ann" and to others as "Annie Laura", was born on August 8, 1944, in Macon, Georgia to Reverend Roscell and Easter Johnson.

She was born and raised in Macon, GA and graduated from Peter G Appling High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation, she relocated to Newark, New Jersey where she later met the love of her life, Felix James Sheffield. The two united in marriage on February 22, 1969, and remained married until his passing on November 6, 2004. From this loving union, they were blessed with four daughters: Andrea Jackson (Wayne), LaTasha Battle (Anthony), Kittrell Sheffield, and Octavia Sheffield (preceded her in death).

In 1971, Ann and James moved to Colquitt, GA where they raised their daughters and became faithful members of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devoted member who sang in the choir for many years and worked alongside the women in the church preparing and serving meals with love and care. Her warm spirit and dedication to service left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Ann had several jobs with her final employment being at Cagle's, Inc in Camilla, GA.

Following the passing of her beloved husband in 2004, Ann moved to Chicago, IL. Helping to raise her grandchildren, brought her immense joy and fulfillment; and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Annie departed this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Roscell and Easter Johnson, her husband, Felix James Sheffield and a daughter, Octavia Sheffield.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory three devoted daughters, Andrea (Wayne) Jackson, LaTasha (Anthony) Battle, and Kittrell Sheffield; siblings, Ovie (Pat) Johnson, Pearline Gunn, and Kay Brenda (James) Vaughn; her beloved grandchildren, Braxton and Diamond Jackson, Dakota and Kendall Battle, and Justin Adewunmi. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to honor her legacy.
