Johnnie Mae Wimberly was born on November 3, 1942 in Damascus, Georgia to John “Buddy” Wimberly and Juanita “Weader” Wimberly.
After graduating from Kestler High School in Damascus, GA in 1960, Johnnie Mae decided to see what city life was like and took off for Newark, NJ. SHE DID NOT LIKE IT! She realized she was a country girl at heart and moved back home. In August 1966, her life changed again when she married Eddie Will Johnson. Together they raised four children.
Johnnie Mae stuck with what she knew best. She was a housekeeper by trade. She could spot a smudge or a speck from a mile away and wouldn’t be satisfied until it was gone! She was also known for her excellent cooking. She could create a meal out of then air and make it taste like a gourmet feast! In November 1976, she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall in Blakely, GA. She loved spending time with her congregation and participating in the ministry work. Johnnie Mae enjoyed sharing the Bible’s message with family, friends, and neighbors until Alzheimer's robbed for of the ability to fully communicate.
Johnnie Mae fell asleep in death on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 due to complications from Alzheimer’s and pneumonia. She was at her home in Damascus, GA in which she has known for over 50 years surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, John “Buddy” Wimberly and Juanita “Weader” Wimberly, her husband, Eddie Will Johnson and two sisters, Estella Jackson and Mattie Mae Chapman.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Alan (Bonnie) Johnson, Ellenwood, GA; Roger (Marilyn) Johnson, Bainbridge, GA; Adrian Johnson and Jessica Johnson both of Damascus, GA; three grandchildren, Kenisha Love, Ellenwood, GA; Alan Johnson, Jr, Atlanta, GA and Chris (Twanshella) Johnson, Jonesboro, GA; great grandchild, Brock Barkley, Ellenwood, GA; sister, Nettie (AJ) Johnson, Albany, GA; brothers, James Wimberly, Damascus, GA and Willie (Ludale) Wimberly, Blakely, GA; Brothers-in-law Nathaniel Johnson, Albany, GA and William (Margaret) Lewis, Rochester, NY.
