A Time to Be Born:

Ms. Lula Mae Douglas was born to Robert Douglas and Mattie Mae Douglas in Baker County, Georgia.  She was raised by her grandmother, Ms. Eliza T. Washington.

A Time for Commitment:

Lula was educated in the Baker County School System.  She worked most of her adult life.  Lula was a sewing machine operator for a lot of years before retiring.  She became a certified nutritionist in 1990.

She was married in 1953 to Louis Jay. They had eight children together.

A Time to Mourn:

Ms. Lula Jay Butler received her angel wings in the early hours of New Years Day, Friday, January 1, 2021.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Douglas and Mattie Mae Douglas, grandmother, Eliza T. Washington, her husband Louis Jay, one son, Michael Jay and one daughter, Gloria Jay.  Along with Robert Taylor Dunbar, two sisters, four brothers, three grandsons, and one son-in-law, Willie James Johnson.

A Time to Rejoice:

She leaves her most cherished memories to her children: John (Diane) Jay, Baker County, GA; Alexander Jay, Albany, GA; Marvin Jay and Barbara J. (Arthur) Curry both of Colquitt, GA; Mittie J. Stubbs and Evelyn Stubbs both of Bainbridge, GA; Linda J. (Greg) Hudson, Blakely, GA; Beatrice J. Johnson, Arlington, GA; two step-daughters, Flossie Anderson and Ruby Jean Bell; 24 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mabel Graham, West Palm Beach, FL; Syvera Cook, Bainbridge, GA; Mary Snead and Cathy Douglas both of Albany, GA; one son-in-law, Willie David Lawhorn, and a host of relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.
